Monument to Stupidity Sponsorship - Concrete block wall

Artist's rendering:

The Monument to Stupidity #1 (approximately 6’ x 10’) is a Concrete block wall randomly sited on the grounds of the Witoka Contemporary at Art Works USA, Witoka, MN. The monument is intended as the first in a series of monuments leading up to the larger scale NATIONAL MONUMENT TO STUPIDITY managed under the umbrella of the US National Park Service.

The grandiose monument is dedicated to all the national and international policies of the United States of America that just did not work out quite so well. The individual policies need not be itemized. The monument can remain universal and eternal reaching back to past mistakes, acknowledging the present and looking forward to future fiascos.

Funding for the larger scale project will be provided by the National Monument to Stupidity Theme Park - a destination park with all the usual tourist amenities including rides, fast food, fine dining, shopping and lodging experiences - developed through private sector contractors.

Construction of the Monument to Stupidity #1 is tentatively scheduled for mid 2019 at Art Works USA. Fiscal sponsors and additional locations are actively being sought. Individuals and organizations providing contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged. Sponsors donating $100 or more will be recognized on a didactic panel. Contact Billy X Curmano for further information.

Performance for an Unknown Space With Lemons (16 pages, 5.5" X 4.25")

Performance for an Unknown Space With Lemons Documentation (8 pages, 5.5" X 4.25")

In 1979, I sent 16 pages of detailed performance instructions via the postal service to Paul Hartal, the founder of the Lyrical Conceptualist Society, in Montreal and Quebec, Canada. We had never met. The society performed the work in 1980 and sent photographic documentation to me. The space and all the players have remained unknown to me. The project was re-created in these two booklets in 2015. - Billy X.

A Volume 1 #1 - Fine Art Magazine

In 1973 Billy X. Curmano released the first (and last) volume of his magazine A Volume 1 #1He contacted and asked individual artists to develop a page for a conceptual magazine. Sixteen responded and their pages have been reproduced exactly as they were submitted.

"A volume 1 #1 was an experiment. Each contributor was given total artistic freedom within the technical and budgetary limitations of the print format available to us in 1973. The Franklin Speed Press was not exceptionally speedy. It consisted of a single pressman that had access to a commercial print shop after hours. A volume 1 #1 was collated and center stapled one by one by hand. Although I was somewhat pleased with the results, I had originally hoped to produce an alphabet of the volumes, A, B, C and so on and on. But then I realized, at least for the moment, I was satisfied. I came to my senses and moved on". - Billy X. Curmano, January 2013

X3C Polluted Water Wear - Performance Sculpture

Lovely Laura Vinroot models the latest in Polluted Water Wear from the Curmano Collection. The X3C was inspired by Billy X. Curmano's 2,367.4 mile swim of the Mississippi River as both performance and environmental statement.

Like much of his output, the X3C is more satirical than practical, none-the-less it has been featured in several films and exhibited along with other Objects Collected and Created in the Course of a Swim.

Official World Wide Rolling Nap T - Organic Cotton T-Shirt

Official World Wide Rolling Nap Fine Art T-shirt
Organic Cotton - Design Billy X. Curmano

The World Wide Rolling Nap is a performance and environmental statement. It is a call for a restructuring, a reordering of mores, values and a paradigm shift that sets a considered balance between the ratio of work to play. All action has reaction. All human activity and now over activity affects one another, our fellow creatures and the very planet we share - as it hurtles through space and time. Unfortunately, much of this affect is negative. Humans do the least damage to the environment as they sleep. The nap, the siesta was a good idea lost in economic excess. The world wide rolling nap is a call for its return. A call to drop all production for at least one hour each and every day - to reteach relaxation and in turn reduce the world wide carbon footprint by that hour.
