It’s too early to uncork the champagne, but Brown University reports some interesting experiments in converting the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide which could help lower its footprint in the atmosphere and create a use for it. Carbon Dioxide is a very stable molecule that must be converted to a more active molecule like carbon monoxide before it can be used for synthetic fuels and commodity chemicals. Converting one to the other is not easy and they’ve had limited success, but research is ongoing.
