InClimate 571; Ruling Allows US Oil Exports

There is more American energy destined to head overseas for the world market and highest bidder. Hydraulic fracturing and a slew of proposed new export terminals have put gas in the spotlight. But now, oil is back as well. US oil exports were banned in 1975 after the gas lines of the Arab Oil Embargo. The Commerce Department recently issued a ruling that changes the definition of what oil can be sent abroad. It allows for a type of oil known as condensate to be exported. The ruling is probably a first step in opening the floodgates for American oil to be burned around the world. It’s kind of climatically counter-productive. No matter where fossil fuels burn, the climate disrupting greenhouse gases follow... even as we work to cut those same emissions here.
