InClimate 604; Travel Aid or Solidarity Event

The biggest climate action in history is centering around the United Nations as world leaders meet for an emergency climate summit in New York City. An agreement with the New York Police Department allows the September 21st Peoples Climate March to wind its way through the streets of Manhattan, but repercussions travel far beyond the city. Climate change is a global issue, which is absolutely apparent by the solidarity marches and events coinciding with the Climate March in New York City.

Climate activities have been planned in cities around the world and around the date including in Kathmandu, New Delhi, London, Paris, Berlin, Melbourne, Rio, Sao Paulo, Jakarta, Dublin, Manila, Seoul, Mumbai and Istanbul. New York anticipates thousands, but world-wide the climate action is estimated to represent about 100 million people.

Will you join us?

Organizers have done what they can to ease travel and housing expenses for the New York event with a dedicated web site. It lists chartered buses coming from all over and two special trains. There is also a listing and support for housing from free floor space to hotels and home shares through environmental, community, civic, and religious groups.

If you can’t come to New York, please consider being involved in a solidarity event in your city. If there isn’t one planned, you can start one. There is plenty of information on the web and as the date comes closer more people and the news media will be on board. Get the permits and make a statement - nothing is too large and nothing is too small.

“Many of ask what can I as one person do, but history shows us that everything good or bad starts because somebody does something or does not do something.” - Sylvia Earle
