InClimate 617; Sneaky New Tar Sands Back Door

The US border may spring a leak in the latest attempt to get that very dirty, thick tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada to refineries on the US Gulf Coast. It’s the Keystone Back Door knocking again with a plan that could blow a loophole in Federal Law that provides oversight for border crossing.

The company behind it already has oily hands. Enbridge has the distinction of being responsible for the biggest inland oil spill in US history. They have been expanding the Clipper pipelines on both sides of the US/Canadian border with the potential to double the amount of tar sands that can then be switched to existing pipes that cross the border for delivery into Wisconsin.

The plan is a sneaky new strategy to avoid the presidential permitting process that has held the Keystone XL Pipeline at bay. To shed light on it, Act.350.org has a petition demanding Enbridge’s plan to expand the Alberta Clipper pipeline be submitted for a full review.
