InClimate 618; Climate Action Numbers

Scientists agree, greenhouse gases like carbon are a leading factor in climate disruption. This spring, the peak concentration of carbon in the atmosphere was 401 parts per million and higher than at any time in human history.

If you find this troubling, you are not alone. Concerned people are gathering in NYC September 21st and in cities around the world to speak out before the United Nations Emergency Summit on Climate. Talk is cheap. The people want action from policy makers on climate change.

Here are some recent numbers from www.350.org on the Peoples Climate March:

There are 1,500 solidarity actions planned in 130 countries around the world for the weekend.

In the USA, all 50 states will be represented. Over 1,100 community, labor, environmental justice, faith and progressive groups have endorsed the march - so far - including 28 different religious faiths and denominations. There are 374 buses and trains listed online to facilitate travel to NYC. Over 300 college campuses are involved in the mobilization and more than 20 marching bands are expected to keep it lively.

The New York Police Department has reserved 26 City blocks for the Peoples Climate March to assemble before stepping out. The approved route starts at Columbus Circle on Sunday at 11:30 am and continues on 59th Street then down 6th Avenue to 42nd Street and on to 11th Avenue winding its way past iconic NYC landmarks.

There’s still time to join in. Here’s the transportation link:
