InClimate 622; Call and Response

Here’s an inquiry from my Facebook page that may be worrisome to some that are on the fence about the Peoples Climate March. Call and Response:

Inquiry: Is this going to be a pot smoking anarchist playing drums in the park kind of protest or will it actually feel like the people that represent all of us? Just wondering because it can give the wrong message -- that those fighting against global warming are on the fringe of mainstream society.

Response: The Peoples Climate March, Climate Week in NYC as well as solidarity events world wide have been put together with great thought and care by concerned people. The marchers are taking time and energy from their daily lives to address a problem that impacts future generations more than even today's. There are 1,500 solidarity actions planned in 130 countries around the world for the weekend.

And from September 10 (InClimate 618): In the USA, all 50 states will be represented. Over 1,100 community, labor, environmental justice, faith and progressive groups have endorsed the march - so far - including 28 different religious faiths and denominations. There are 374 buses and trains listed online to facilitate travel to NYC. Over 300 college campuses are involved in the mobilization and more than 20 marching bands are expected to keep it lively.

The New York Police Department has reserved 26 City blocks for the Peoples Climate March to assemble before stepping out. The approved route starts at Columbus Circle on Sunday at 11:30 am and continues on 59th Street then down 6th Avenue to 42nd Street and on to 11th Avenue winding its way past iconic NYC landmarks.
