InClimate 628; March/Demo Advice

The New York Police Department approved route for the Peoples Climate March starts at Columbus Circle on Sunday at 11:30 am and continues on 59th Street then down 6th Avenue to 42nd Street and on to 11th Avenue. The staging area will continue north on the west side of central park. It is suggested you get there early since some streets will get closed off.

Remember in large gatherings of people things can go wrong - so please be careful out there. Wherever you are - in NYC or solidarity actions - remember to be respectful of others, wear comfortable clothes, bring some water and a snack. Do not bring things that can be conceived as weapons. It is a good idea to travel with some sort of affinity group that will watch out for each other. Don’t be swept into a bad situation by a crowd. Enjoy the day. Enjoy the walk. Enjoy the friendship and community we are building.

If a police officer asks you to stop or leave in an individual situation - there are choices. You can stay or leave; stop or continue your action. You may get a warning or a  command to stop or leave, if you continue the officer might arrest you. That’s always an inconvenience at best, so think it through. If you want to take a stand to make a point, just be sure the point you are making is not frivolous or prideful or just something between you and an authority figure. If it is, lay back and save your resources for another day.
