InClimate 644; Shot Gun at Proposed Pipeline

The gas and oil boom in the USA has increased delivery demands. Oil trains and  pipelines are crisscrossing the nation. Anger has been growing over spills, traffic delays and individual property rights threatened by the fossil fuel industry and its rush to market.

In Genesee County, Michigan, some residents have taken direct action to block Energy Transfer Partners proposed 800-mile ET Rover natural gas pipeline. The company’s survey crews have met with the cold shoulder. In one tense incident, "The Flint Journal" reported the police were called as a shot gun wielding man drove one crew off of his neighbors land. Prosecutors are looking into the incident.

An Atlas Township resident called the sheriff’s department to report a pipeline survey crew was on her property without permission. The alleged trespassers left without being issued a citation, but a police report was filed. Another couple refused the crew access and said they wouldn’t allow them on their property without a court order.

Sometimes the high-minded claim of American Energy Independence has allowed the corporate giants to run rough shod over all, but those claims turn hollow when the fuel ends up on the world market and environmental degradation ends up here. The time to transition from nuclear and fossil fuel is past due. Actions like these along with local communities banning fracking, limiting sand trucks and just saying “No” to big oil and gas indicates America is waking up.
