InClimate 646; Venezuelan PreCOP 20

The next United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, UN Lima Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP20) is set for Dec 1 - 12, 2014 in Lima, Peru.

 

The Venezuelan Government is hosting a Social PreCOP on Climate Change between November 4-7 on Margarita, Island, Venezuela to prepare for the UN Conference. It’s meant to begin an alliance between people and governments to address climate change and is believed to be the first world call for government and social movement leaders to work together at this level. Venezuelan and International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and social government groups will meet to develop proposals that will be presented to Environmental Ministers from 40 countries.

The Margarita Declaration will also be presented. It was written by over 130 international organizations to elaborate on themes including inter-generational equality and the rights of future generations, climate ethics, social participation in decision making and North-South responsibilities.
