InClimate 694; Congress Gets a Rest

The last major legislation to protect the American environment was passed with the economic stimulus package in 2009. It was primarily intended to put people back to work and included limited funding for common sense projects like energy efficiency, improvements and job training in that sector.

That’s no major positive environmental legislation since 2009, none in:

2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 or 2010.

“Everything’s alright... Oh, no... it’s not.”

Actually, we vote policymakers in to make policy. Funny, they don’t seem to know that. The current congress passed only 86 bills and among those there was a bunch of fluff like (HR-1071) a law to regulate the size of the Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative coins and (HR-2383) to rename an I-70 bridge the “Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge”. The climate denying, head in the sand policy wonks must have struggled with those because they followed the “86” with a nice five-week recess. Baseball and veterans are certainly important, but perhaps a nod to climate change and the catastrophic consequence of continuing business as usual is in order.
