The next round of United Nations Climate Talks starts today in Lima, Peru and runs to December 12, 2014. The negotiations will hopefully go beyond the old Kyoto Protocol which the United States never ratified and Canada dropped out of weakening its viability. Efforts on a new global climate pact with more impact is underway. All eyes are on Peru, but the results will probably not be finalized for another year when further negotiations are scheduled in Paris. The risks have grown incredibly since the Kyoto Protocol some seventeen years ago, so let’s hope the policymakers get on the ball and find something they and their governments can all live with.
