InClimate 710; $4 Trillion & Climate Petitions

The fossil fuel energy model is maintained in part through the astronomical profits of the industry. The 200 publicly-traded companies with the largest fossil fuel reserves had a market value of about $4 Trillion at the end of 2012. No wonder they fight the transition to clean energy.

The negotiators at the United Nations climate talks proposed a draft that would force the companies in the fossil fuel industry to “cease to exist in their current forms” according to the Financial Times. Unfortunately, the industry is fighting to roll back the agreement. There is a petition to keep the lobbyists out of the climate talks and another to ask climate ministers to stand strong on carbon reduction.
