InClimate 711; Fossil Fuel Out of Fund

Fossils fuels are out. The executive director of the Green Climate Fund announced fossil fuels will be excluded from funding and renewables will be prioritized. The Green Climate Fund was established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to redistribute money from developed nations to the developing world to help them mitigate and adapt to climate change. The new harder line policy comes after revelations that Japan had lent about $1 billion of its climate finance for three coal-fired power plants in Indonesia.

The fund’s board will focus on technology for clean energy solutions, efficient cities and industries and clean transport.
