InClimate 746; Keystone Backdoors

Stay vigilante. The Keystone XL pipeline isn’t the only game in town. Back doors for dirty tar sands oil already exist and could be amped up to make the Keystone controversy almost irrelevant. Enbridge Energy has eyed bypassing the review process by eventually increasing the flow from 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 800,00 bpd through the existing Albert Clipper line (Line #67) in northern Minnesota. One plan is a classic bait and switch. Enbridge would run the increased volume through Albert Clipper to near the US border than switch to Line 3 to cross over and then switch back to the Albert Clipper line. The oil will go on its merry way to the international market. Line 3’s Presidential Permit issued back in 1968 never considered dangerous tar sands oil or such an increase in volume.
