InClimate 751; Just Another Oil Spill

Another day; another dollar - another day; another oil spill. Oil prices have been dropping, but it’s not all good news. The more we use the stuff the more damage to the environment from exploring, harvesting, transporting, refining and eventually burning the old fossils and the slower the transition to a more modern and cleaner energy economy.

Last Saturday, estimates show between 12,600 to 50,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the Yellowstone River up stream from Glendive, Montana. Nearby residents reported smelling oil in their drinking water. Clean-up is difficult since the river was partially frozen and some oil has been seen trapped in ice about 60-miles below Glendive. Ice on top of the river forces crews to kind of “hunt and peck” for the crude.
