Scientists have linked droughts and deadly heat waves to climate change. Estimates for deaths related directly to the 2003 extreme heat wave in Europe are suspected to be more than 20,000 and in India over 1,500. Add to the heat related deaths those caused by infectious disease carrying insects, animals and microbes that have increased their range and the World Health Organization estimates 150,000 climate change related deaths in the year 2000.
