When is it climate change; when it just another weather anomaly? This year, the Mississippi River Spring navigation seasoned opened on April 8th the latest ever recorded because of late ice. Al VanGuilder conducts the annual ice survey and reported an odd spring. There were many times the river gained 4 inches within a 2-week period in late March. “That’s typically unheard of.” The biggest difference was 19 inches of ice increasing to 26 inches at the same mile marker just 6 weeks later. “That’s unheard of this late in the season.”
