InClimate 792; The Fossil Fuels Not To Tap

It’s long been established that there are at least three times more known reserves of the planet’s fossil fuels than can be burned without catastrophic climate consequences, but a new study published in the journal “Nature” goes into more depth on the what, which and where those reserves are most dangerous to extract and use. Christophe McGlade from University College London led the research and described the findings: “We’ve now got tangible figures of the quantities and locations of fossil fuels that should remain unused in trying to keep within the 2º C temperature limit.”

Most Canadian tar sands oil, all Arctic oil and gas and a large portion of shale gas needs to just stay put. That’s trillions of dollars untapped and the the kind of news the Koch brothers and other oil, coal and gas barons don’t want reported.
